Trentin Manning: Reviews

"Trentin Lee Manning is quickily becoming one the the leading young american bassists."
Trentin. Your music is very smooth and pleasing! Your efforts are very professional and music meaning and your skills on the bass are inspiring!
I took a listen to Trentin Manning's "TRANQUILITY&TENION" and for the most part I found the recording to be just what is,a well thought out entity brought to life not by trentin but the reality of truth one can only hear and feel throughout all it's layers of innocence. I can proudly say that all aspects of this recording was well thought out, from the musicians to the production even the simplicity of the cover art says alot about the spirit that is Trentin Manning, I don't want to use this cliche but i can say that Trentin is here to stay and thru out it all wish him the best in his musicial endeavors. Again, I spent some time giving Trentin's cd a spin and this is what i was left with.

1- Monkeyz The first few measures remind me of Stu Hamm during his early solo stuff and than morphs into a nice rock fusion vibe, introducing my ears to some nice and pleasant in your face shredding from guitarist Rick Brantley, not to harsh but oh so right ,it settles into a nice and honestly just right groove that showcases the essence of Trent's melodic sensibilities interwined effortlessly with Brantley offering some very tasteful chordal assistance only to make things work out even more this poetic section inthe life of the composition that takes the listener into some etheral in your face thumping and popping/slapping and plucking (depending on what generation you're from)that perfectly guides in to a darkand intrested techno meets industrial mode with strings(from a keyboard iam sure), not to far behind adding the perfect fusing of colors that are familiar but soothing likable with a drone so funky under it all that it sails on like it's suddenly discovered it's own personal voyage now fading out slowly but only to surprise the listener with a mild burst of ocean wave edgy melodicism hinting that if Trent wants to he can grind with the best. 2 - ARABESQUE Very eastern influenced and not just by the title, Arbesque opens up with what sounds more like a lute than a bass guitar but the grind of the bass with the right harmonics begin to paint a picture the just the right harmonics begin to paint a picture that's very interestingly calm and thick, more like the movement of a large body of water. Each harmonic seem to possess a palette of colors al their own expressing thru out it all a strong focused fretless all in it's own world but allowing enough grit to keep this listener intersted.

3- TRANQIULITY&TENION Comes strait out the gate setting up what could be the perfect Euro trance back drop while the bass flutters, moan and growl to rhythmic heart pulse that's simpy being what it was meant to be, a life seeking entity in seach of.

4- AZUR ROOM Melodically soothing, just respectfully allowing the listener to know where things should be,the bass never overshadowing at all nor is it forgiving, just bring truth to all things real.

5 - EMMI (my everything) This is the last song of this wonderful recording. The bass sounds so mature and melodically adventurous while maintianing it's rhythmically tame arura giving the bass the right amount of freedom to shout out loud with joy it feels the need.

Trentin Lee Mnning is a musician that shines new hope on the electric bass. The current course of the bassist as leaders/composers.When many player seem to lean towards putting the sound of our beloved instrument into the ears of people who never held a bass in their own hands. Iam loving his current music.I cant wait to see where he takes it and what he inspires in his fellow bassist.

Trentin Manning'sTranquility&Tenion. track 1 "Monkeyz" hits you in the face with some extremely fast playing then takes a unexpected dive into some really nice melodic lines. Track 2 "Arabesque" from the flamenco style start Jaco style harmonic playing suggests a certain maturity beyond his 20 years. The fretless work sounds great on this song. The last two tracks "Azure Room" and "Tranquility&Tenion" feature some cool chordal work with melodies weaving their way through. Great mood coming from the backing too. Overall the record displays Trentin unique talent with the use of various styles of playing that reminded me of Michael Manring,Jaco and Mark King all fused into one.
